Biomorphic Cellular Structures

Bioinspired Lattices for Biomorphic Materials and Structures

In collaboration with Prof. Aaron Sprecher in the School of Architecture, this project focuses on the potential to optimize design solutions by combining computational methods that are currently researched in the fields of biomimetics, structural optimization and computational design.

The main objective is to use computational tools and additive manufacturing to build biomorphic structures that feature biological formations in their material, e.g. cellular tissue microarchitecture, and that are simultaneously optimized for structural and manufacturing

Our method combines aspects of multiscale mechancs of cellular materials, bio-inspired shaping, multiobjective optimization, material design and digital manufacturing.
